Every Southern Water works that needs phosphorus removal by 2030, ranked for suppliers
SectorFlare turns the regulators’ own programmes into ranked, asset‑level target lists for the companies that build and equip UK infrastructure. One water company, one driver, one pack at a time. The first is ready now.
Southern Water has to bring 95 wastewater treatment works inside new phosphorus limits, almost all by March 2030. The regulator’s programme lists them; it doesn’t help you prioritise. This pack adds the proposed limit, the likely scope, and two supplier rankings to every works: one for tertiary and dosing suppliers, one for nature‑based and small‑works solutions. Spreadsheet, map, CSV and method note.
£495 on invoice, files within one working day. Full refund if it shows you fewer than two works you weren’t already tracking.
What the programme adds up to
- 86
- works getting a phosphorus limit for the first time, so new treatment where none was required before.
- 9
- works with an existing limit being tightened, where the question is upgrade or replace.
- 75
- works likely to need tertiary solids removal, on Southern Water’s own 0.7 mg/l rule.
- 95
- works with a proposed iron or aluminium limit alongside the phosphorus one, which points to coagulant dosing.
- 7
- stretch targets below the standard limit, needing the closest technical assessment.
- 15
- schemes driven by a designated conservation site, such as an SSSI.
Built for the people who sell into AMP8
If you supply tertiary filtration, coagulant dosing, chemicals, reactive media, wetlands and nature‑based treatment, packaged plant for small works, or the analysers and controls that go with them, this is your target list for one water company and one driver.
Use it to decide which sites to pursue, which to put in front of the delivery partners now, and where nearby schemes suit a coordinated approach.
What’s in the pack
- SpreadsheetAll 95 works in Excel. Two ranked views, a tab of first‑time limits, and a data dictionary that spells out every column and every weighting, so you can re‑sort the list around your own criteria.
- MapEvery works plotted, so you can see the clusters and plan a route. Opens in any browser, no software to install.
- CSVThe same data as a plain file, ready to load into your CRM or GIS.
- Method noteWhere each figure comes from, how the data was checked against the source, and what is still missing.
Every row carries
- Works name and location
- Proposed phosphorus limit
- First limit or a tightened one
- Proposed iron or aluminium limit
- Stretch target, where there is one
- Designated site, where one is named
- Completion date
- Likely scope of work
- Rank for tertiary and dosing
- Rank for nature‑based and small works
Three rows from the pack
Taken as they appear in the spreadsheet, including a field we don’t have yet. Every inferred value is marked as such in the pack.
| Works | Catchment | P limit (mg/l) | Type | Likely scope | Due | Rank: tertiary | Rank: nature‑based | Works size |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chickenhall Eastleigh WwTW | Itchen (River Itchen SAC) | none → 0.25 | First limit | Ferric dosing + tertiary solids removal (inferred) | 31 Mar 2030 | 1 | 48 | not yet in pack |
| Fullerton WwTW | River Test SSSI | 0.3 → 0.25, stretch 0.15 | Tightened | Ferric dosing + tertiary solids removal (inferred) | 31 Mar 2030 | 2 | 49 | not yet in pack |
| Clapham | Black Ditch (West Sussex) | none → 4 | First limit | Ferric dosing, or wetland / absorptive media / electro‑coagulation for small sites (inferred) | 31 Mar 2030 | 91 | 2 | not yet in pack |
Each row in the pack also carries the EA action and permit references, proposed iron or aluminium limit, designations, delivery year, grid reference and the ranking scores.
Where the work clusters
Several catchments carry a run of schemes at once. If you price by mobilisation, or want one reference site close to its neighbours, these are the places to start.
- Great Stour, Kent 10 works
- River Beult, near Maidstone 10 works
- River Adur, near Storrington 6 works
- Itchen and Test, Hampshire several
- Rother and Lod, around Petersfield several
The tertiary and dosing ranking puts Chickenhall (Eastleigh), Fullerton, Romsey, Ashford and Canterbury at the top.
What it won’t tell you, yet
We would rather you knew the edges of the data before you paid for it.
- Works size. Flow and population figures are blank for almost every works in this edition. If we publish an edition that adds them, buyers of this one get it free.
- Exact location. Positions are accurate to about a kilometre, which is enough to plan a visit and not enough to find the gate.
- Who delivers each scheme. Not public yet. Southern Water’s AMP8 non‑infrastructure delivery partners are CMDP+ (Costain and MWH Treatment), Kier Integrated Services and Galliford Try, so the conversation starts with them.
- A ranking that knows your business. Ours is a deliberately simple starting point. Every weighting is in the dictionary, so you can change it in minutes.
Not phosphorus? Not Southern?
The same method works for every water company in England and Wales and for the other AMP8 drivers, because the source programmes cover them all. Packs are built in the order people ask for them.
- Phosphorus, other companiesThames, Anglian, Severn Trent, Wessex, Yorkshire, United Utilities, Northumbrian, South West, Dŵr Cymru. Same columns, same rankings. On request.
- Storm overflowsOverflow‑by‑overflow spill counts and durations against the AMP8 reduction targets, for the screening, storage, treatment and monitoring suppliers chasing them. In preparation.
- Nitrogen and ammoniaWorks with new or tightened nutrient limits beyond phosphorus. In preparation.
Tell us the company and driver you sell into and we’ll say when yours is coming, or move it up the queue if enough people ask.
